The Area Agency on Aging of the Panhandle provides services to the elderly of the 26 counties of the Panhandle. Funding for the agency is comprised of federal, state, and local funds as well as foundation dollars. Federal funds from the Older Americans Act, USDA and State General Revenue are provided through the Texas Department on Aging. The Meadows and Bivins Foundations also provide generous funding for the rural in-home assistance programs.
The mission of the Area Agency on Aging is to improve the lives of senior citizens in the Panhandle by helping them remain independent and living in their own homes with quality of life. The Area Agency provides the planning, coordination and implementation of many services. Senior Citizens can take advantage of such programs as congregate and home delivered meals, emergency response services, adult day care, transportation, minor home repairs/modifications, homemaker services, personal care assistance, and legal assistance/representation. Information and assistance, benefits counseling and nursing home ombudsman are also provided.
