The Local Government Services (LGS) Department assists communities in identifying, processing, and utilizing population, economic, and other related data from the United States Census to meet local needs in daily operations, seeking funding through grants programs, and long term planning. LGS serves as the local affiliate of the Texas State Data Center, a division of Texas A&M University. As the local affiliate, the LGS Department receives and maintains a wide range of census, demographic, and socioeconomic data. Funding for this service comes from the Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA) through the Community Economic Development and Assistance Fund (CEDAF).
LGS is able to answer most questions regarding Census data or do special data requests on a same-day basis. Routine requests we receive involve Census Tract designations and detail, target population demographics, economic data, and labor marker data. Other information is also available, including the production of small maps and summaries of census data. As the 2010 Census data is processed and becomes available, LGS staff will assist communities and individuals in identifying and utilizing the information to meet local needs. This is a program that is heavily utilized for the first two years after Census data is released and then moves into a routine maintenance phase later in each decade due to the nature of the cycle.
